The drip fire rifle, which was invented by William Scurry, to deceive the Turks in the final hours of the evacuation of Gallipoli Pensinula. 2668 Private (Pte) William Charles Scurry enlisted on 19 July 1915 in the 8th Reinforcements of 7th Battalion. He also served in the 58th Battalion. Pte Scurry is best known for his invention known as the 'drip gun', 'drip rifle' or 'pop off rifle' used in the evacuation of Gallipoli in December 1915, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM). As commanding officer of 15th Light Trench Mortar Battery, Captain Scurry was awarded Military Cross 12 October 1916 at Petillon, France.
