Description

A statue of Saddam Hussein in central Baghdad is battered but still standing, following the bombing of Baghdad by coalition air forces during the Iraq war. Behind can be seen the Saddam Tower, the main Baghdad telecommunications tower, and to its left, a telephone exchange, substantially damaged by bombing. To the right can be seen the incomplete Saddam mosque, started by Saddam Hussein, and intended to be the world's largest. Statues of Saddam were ubiquitous in Iraq before the fall of his regime, and a highly visible symbol of its power.
