Description
A street café in Al Sadoon Street, in central Baghdad, shortly before the start of the 2003 Iraq war. A man at an outside table looks towards the camera. At the end of the street is one of Baghdad's many mosques. Australian artist George Gittoes wrote that, on the eve of war, 'Baghdad was a city awaiting certain apocalypse... - the street facades started to resemble theatrical sets ready to be dragged out for the next act.'
