Set of dominoes : 2/3 Army Field Workshop
Description
Set of celluloid dominoes contained in a small wooden case with a ribbed upper and lower surface. The two halves of the case, held in place by two metal pegs, separate and form a platform to hold the tiles for each player. The lid is stamped inside in purple ink '2/3rd A.F.W. Auxiliary'. There are four circles cut into the inside of the base to contain the tiles and dice. Eight tiles are missing from the original set of thirty-two, as are the two dice.
History / Summary
Made by members of 2/3 Army Field Workshops attached to 7 Division in Queensland and New Guinea. The tiles are made from off-cuts taken from vehicle and instrument specification plates.
