5.56 x 45 mm NATO Dummy Drill Cartridge
Description
5.56 x 45 mm NATO Dummy Drill Cartridge.
History / Summary
Type example. From the collection of munitions originally held by the Australian Defence Industries Munitions Factory at Benalla, Victoria. Drill cartridges are a dummy cartridge used for training of troops and as such they have no propellant charge and do not have a live percussion cap - most do not have a blank cap inserted. To distinguish them from live ammunition they are identified by the material used, colours, or shapes (for example: red flutes in the case, and/or wooden projectiles).
