Collection relating to the Iraq War service of 0413910 Flying Officer (later Flight Lieutenant) Charles Davies 'Charlie' Freebairn, 36 Squadron RAAF, Middle East, 2003.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a copy of a diary Freebairn maintained while deployed to the Middle East on Operations Bastille and Falconer in 2003. The diary consists of regular entries between 9 March and 2 May 2003 and includes occasional photographs and ephemera, such as identification passes and tickets. Freebairn writes of his journey to the operating base in Doha, Qatar via Western Australia and Diego Garcia, of his work flying cargo on C-130 Hercules transport aircraft to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Bahrain prior to and following the invasion of Iraq, his living conditions and recreation, of the threat of missile fire and chemical or biological agents in Kuwait, receiving instruction on the rules governing prisoners of war and opening fire, of observing Anzac Day in the Middle East, and of his return to Australia.
