An unidentified Lieutenant from the Tongan Defence Services, (left), and Lieutenant Justin Parker of C Company, 2nd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) (right) climb into a Land Rover 4x4 Defender TD5 as they leave the village of Malu’u. A multi-national military force, including Australian troops deployed under Operation Anode, protected police posts established by the Participating Police Force of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). Malu’u is located in the troubled region of northern Malaita, which experienced violence and unrest, due to the activities of armed militia groups such as the Malaitan Eagle Force (MEF), prior the arrival of RAMSI forces in July 2003. The police post at Malu’u, one of three established on the island of Malaita, was opened on 19 September 2003.
