Description
Captain Rachel Leal of 1st Intelligence Battalion hands information flyers to a local man and woman at Sisifiu village in northern Malaita. The flyers were produced by the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI), in support of the investigations of the multi-national Participating Police Force (PPF). The north of Malaita had been troubled by the violent activities of militants such as the Malaita Eagle Force (MEF), prior to RAMSI’s intervention and the arrival of the multi-national military force, including Australian troops under Operation Anode. The MEF agreed to surrender weapons as part of the arms amnesty allowed by RAMSI during August 2003, and MEF leader, Jimmy ‘Rasta’ Lusibaea, was arrested on 15 October 2003.
