Australian diplomat Nick Warner, of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Special Coordinator of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI), at a public information meeting in the village of Rame’ai. He is wearing a flower garland presented by local children. Mr Warner, a former High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, headed RAMSI’s multi-national policing and military intervention, Operation Helpem Fren. Rame’ai is in northern Malaita, a region that had experienced violence and unrest due to the activities of armed militants, prior to the arrival of the multi-national policing and military intervention in July 2003. Three police posts were established on Malaita by the multi-national RAMSI Participating Police Force, with logistical, security and intelligence support provided by RAMSI military forces, including Australian troops deployed under Operation Anode.
