Description

Informal portrait of a member of the Tongan platoon deployed as part of Operation Helpem Fren, under the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). The platoon, based at Camp RAMSI near Honiara, was being trained to deal with snakebite: Tonga, unlike the Solomon Islands, has no venomous land snakes. Tonga deployed forty personnel to the Solomon Islands on 28 July 2003, in support of the multi-national military and policing intervention: Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji also sent troops.
