Description

Portrait of Captain Alan Wolski of the 1st Division/Deployable Joint Force Headquarters J9 Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Branch. The J9 (CIMIC) Branch, raised in July 2003, was responsible for liaison between the Australian Defence Forces, and civilian agencies in operational areas. It was deployed to the Solomon Islands as part of Operation Anode, Australia’s military and policing contribution to the multi-national Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). The branch team assessed medical, educational, food distribution, water supply, and sewerage infrastructure across the islands, working to coordinate the refurbishment of health clinics and school buildings, and to increase the availability of power and fresh water. Captain Wolski is a reservist, and when not on deployment is a Principal Civil Engineer with the Queensland Department of Public Works, overseeing projects such as the construction of Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
