Description

Studio portrait of Captain (Capt) John Redmond, 41st Battalion, his wife Clara Ruby (nee Bice) and their son John Bice Redmond, born in August 1913. This family portrait was taken prior to Capt Redmond's embarkation with the AIF. He sailed with A Company, 41st Infantry Battalion, 11th Infantry Brigade, on HMAT Demosthenes from Sydney on 18 May 1916. Capt Redmond died in France on 5 October 1917, he was aged 41 and is commemorated on The Ypres (Menin Gate) in Belgium. John Bice Redmond was later to serve as VX141493 Lieutenant in the 3rd Australian Army Transport Company (RAE) in the Second World War.
