Description

Imperial Japanese Army mortar sight used during the Second World War. The sight is made from machined steel components that have been painted with black enamel baked on paint. The scope is of an elbow, porro prism design and features an internal mechanically hinged orange lens designed for use in low light conditions. The graticle has two fine horizontal and a single vertical stadia wire that are used for sighting and range determination. The scope has a 4 power magnification and has a 15 degree field of view. The objective lens has a diopter adjustable for focus and parallax determination. The rubber eye cap on the objective lens is missing. The sight has a cylindrical post which has two anchor lugs and a concave cut-out machined to fit a mount clamp on the mortar bipod. Externally there is an auxiliary flip up front post and ring sight with a post and bead at the rear used for short range direct sighting. Markings - 4X 15 DEGREES; NIKKO; NO 15548; NO 2234; 1994; 26; Japanese proof marks and acceptance ciphers.
