Elevation trials of the prototype SP 25-pdr Yeramba; a self-propelled 25 Pounder gun mounted on a modified M3 General Grant tank chassis. (Official name: Ordnance, Quick Firing, 25 pdr Mark 2/1, on Mounting Self propelled 25 pdr (AUST) Mark 1, on Carrier, Grant, Self Propelled 25 pdr (AUST) Mark 1.) A technician is inspecting the vehicle during gun trials conducted on the Greytown Range. Australian designed and developed, the prototype Yeramba was made in 1949 at the Development and Proving Establishment, Monegeetta. After the development trials, a production run of 13 was undertaken by the Ordnance Factory, Bendigo, during 1951-52. The Yerambas were used by the 22 Field Regiment SP (self-propelled), a Victorian based Royal Australian Artillery Unit, until the Yeramba was declared obsolete and withdrawn from service in 1956.
