ANZAC flapper
Description
A fired ceramic statue of a girl in a dress wearing an Australian soldiers slouch hat. Her hair is plaited in pigtails with bows that hang down her back. The statue was given to an English girl in London, Vera Gilbert, by an Australian soldier in 1916 shortly before he asked her for her hand in marriage. Ms Gilbert declined due to the fact that her mother was ill and her family poor however she kept the statue, which is inscribed with the words 'Anzac flapper' on the base, as a memento of her friendship with the soldier.
