Description

Range Finder, Anti Aircraft Mk 3. The Range Finder is made from cast white metal, aluminium, brass and glass, and is finished in dark green paint. The item is incomplete with several parts missing. The left side of the range finder tubing has been removed and the outer casing and other fittings are missing. A black knurled brass and steel adjustible eyepiece is fitted at the end of the complete right arm. The centre section, which is box shaped, is mounted onto a pivoting bow shaped cast cradle that turns, raises and lowers the rangefinder as required. The cradle is mounted on a circular brass turntable that has been graded in single units of degrees up to 360. Elevation and depression can be adjusted in five degree increments and is altered by two small hand wheels, one of which is broken with a piece missing. To traverse the range finder, a larger hand wheel can be fitted to the turntable base. In the centre of the range finder are two 70mm diameter brass and glass lenses that can be adjusted and covered with tinted filters as required. Two cast lifting handles are bolted to the top of the cradle. A simple clamp ring sight with a vertical post foresight and a milled aperture backsight is also clamped to the right side tubing.
