Portrait of 2439 Private (Pte) Victor Searle, 5th Reinforcements, 20th Battalion, (left), and an unidentified Australian soldier, mounted on camels in front of the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid, with two local guides. Pte Searle enlisted on 18 July 1915 and embarked aboard the HMAT Ballarat in Sydney on 6 September 1915. He was killed in action, aged twenty five, on 26 July 1916 at Pozieres, France.
