Studio portrait of QX10278 Private (Pte) Leslie George Ogden, 2/10 Battalion, of Brisbane, Qld. A printer in civilian life, Pte Ogden enlisted on 27 June 1940. He died of wounds in Libya on 19 May 1941, aged 18. Upon the death of Pte Ogden, an unidentified comrade wrote a poem in his honour: 'A lonely cross' neath the starlit sky/ A wind swept hill and wistful sigh/ Hushed drowsy wavelets kissing the shore/ A brave heart still for ever more. Bravely you lived, bravely you died/ Your cobbers around you/ Their hearts filled with pride. With the enemy ground and victory in sight/ While the thunder of battle shattered the night/ We shall always remember you, think of you, Les/ The fun that we shared and the hardships too. A man every inch of you, a man at his best/ Sleep well old pal, God guard your rest.'
