Group photograph of Australian soldiers waiting to embark at Darling Island, Pyrmont, New South Wales. Identified from left to right: Wearing helmet 264 is NX69500 Staff Sergeant John Alexander McDonald, of Lidcombe, New South Wales (NSW), who enlisted at Paddington NSW, on 11 March 1941and served with the 2/2 Australian Ordnance Stores Company; wearing helmet 249 is NX52424 Private (Pte) William Gladstone Andrews, of Charing Cross, NSW, who enlisted at Paddington on 2 July 1940 and served with the 5 Australian Base Ordinance Depot. Pte Andrews also served during the First World War as a Pte with the 34th Battalion; wearing helmet 246 is NX15724 Corporal Richard Alan Burstal Tarrant, of Roseville, NSW, who enlisted at Willoughby, NSW, on 1 August 1938 and served with the District Accounts Office NSW; wearing helmet 243 is NX7234 Private Francis Daniel Reilly, of Bondi, NSW, who enlisted at Paddington, NSW, on 8 May 1941 and served with the 2/12 Field Regiment; wearing helmet 237 is NX1938 Warrant Officer Class 2 Alfred Ernest Casimir, of Randwick, NSW, who enlisted at Paddington, NSW, on 21 April 1941and served with the 2/1 AOSC. The men are all armed with Short Magazine Lee Enfields (SMLE Mk III). Note that the colour patches on the mens shoulders have been deleted by the censor.
