Description

Group portrait of members of the Japanese Ueno Acrobatic Troupe, which toured Australia as part of Wirth's Circus in the 1930's. In 1941, following the outbreak of war in the Pacific, several troupe members still working in Australia were interned in detention camps. Identified, third from left, is the leader, Albert Ueno. Ueno later became leader of Compound B at Tatura Internment Camp in Victoria.
