Description
Linen square embroidered in the centre, in satin stitch, with the Australian 'rising sun' general service badge in yellow, red and blue cottons.
History / Summary
This linen was embroidered by 166 private Charles Maunder of A Company, 15 Battalion. Maunder, a clerk from Toowoomba in Qld, enlisted in the AIF on 21 September 1914 and embarked on HMAT Ceramic in Melbourne on 22 December that year. He was wounded in action on Gallipoli and was repatriated to Australia on 8 May 1916. Maunder was taught to embroider as part of his rehabilitation.
