Description

Abwurfbehalter AB 70-1 Cluster Bomb container. This would have contained either fifty x SD 1 Splitterbomben, twenty three x SD 2 Stor Splitterbomben, or three Mark S Seemarkierungskorper (sea marker bouys) flares, and was fuzed with a ZtZ (79) B. electro-pyrotechnic fuze. Length 43.5 inches, diameter 8 inches.

History / Summary

On release from the aircraft, an electrical charge is transmitted via the charging head to either or both fuzes. After a delay, fuze operates to detonate the bursting charge. The two halves swing back on the hinge and the contents spill out.

Brought back from Juvencourt airfield, France by Wing Cdr. K. M. Kemp, D.F.C., commanding officer, 463 squadron when he had occasion to fly there to pick up a crew who had force landed.
