Description
Informal photograph of four prisoners of war from the German captured ship, Igotz Mendi. Identified are two Australian soldiers; Colonel Strangman second from left and Captain Flood, third from left. Colonel (Col) Cecil Lucius Strangman, 3 Battalion served with the Naval and Military Forces - Special Tropical Corps and enlisted as a medical doctor from Adelaide SA on 25 November, 1914. He embarked from Sydney on the 28 November, 1914 aboard SS Eastern. Col Stragman served in German New Guinea as a member of the Australian Naval and Military Expedition Force, and was later made Prisoner of War when SS Matunga was captured by the German raider Wolf. He survived the war and returned to Australia on 20 October 1918.
