Description
Studio group portrait of 8481 Driver William Leonard Bridgman, 8398 Second Lieutenant Fernleigh Silas Tall MC (seated) and 8485 Driver Sherlock Neville Graham.
8481 Driver William Leonard Bridgman, from Port Lincoln, South Australia, enlisted on 31 August 1915 and sailed with the 18th Battery aboard HMAT Persic on 22 November 1915. He was killed in action on 7 November 1917, aged 34, in France and is buried at The Huts Cemetery, Dickebusch, Belgium.
8398 Second Lieutenant Fernleigh Silas Tall MC, from Largs Bay, South Australia, enlisted on 25 August 1915. He embarked aboard HMAT Persic on 22 November 1915. In 1918, he was awarded the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty" in rescuing many wounded men under enemy shelling. Tall returned to Australia on 11 December 1918.
8485 Driver Neville Sherlock Graham, originally from Dunedin, New Zealand, enlisted on 10 September 1915 in Adelaide, South Australia. He embarked aboard HMAT Persic on 22 November 1915 with the 6th Field Artillery Battery. Following the armistice, Graham transferred to the Australian Grave Services and remained in Europe for several years before returning to Australia on 21 November 1921.
This photograph also has the annotation A.C. Carter on reverse, relating to 8865 Driver Arthur Charles Carter, 18th Battery, 6th Field Artillery Brigade, as the owner of the print.
