Description
Members of the 15th Reinforcements, 4th Light Horse Regiment, grouped informally on the wharf prior to boarding HMAT Anchises (A68). Identified are (left to right) front row: unidentified; 2243 Private (Pte) Charles Owens, farmer of Jeeralong, Vic; probably 2238 Pte John James Allardice, farmer of Geelong, Vic; unidentified; 2246 Pte John Joseph Wilkinson, miner of Korumburra, Vic; 2249 Pte George Richmond Thorp, coach painter, of Richmond, Vic; unidentified; 2239 Pte Ernest Henry Barber, labourer of Wedderburn, Vic. Pte Owens later transferred to the 58th Battalion (Infantry) and died of wounds in France on 30 September 1918. Pte Barber is holding the regimental banner.
