Description
Troops, mostly of 2nd Platoon, 20th Reinforcements, 8th Battalion, prior to boarding HMAT Euripides (A14). Identified by names on their kitbags are: 6304 Private (Pte) Bruce Maude (seated, front row, second from left); 6400 Pte Alexander Henderson (seated, front row, third right from Pte Maude) and 6398 Pte Frederick Hill (seated, second row, right of centre, showing named kitbag). Pte Hill was killed in action on 9 August 1918. Also in the photograph is 6532 Pte Edward Charles Hannan (seated, front row, next right from Pte Henderson, and showing service number 6418 on his kitbag). Pte Henderson's service number was changed to 6532 and he embarked on 2 October 1916 on HMAT Nestor (A71). He was killed in action on 4 October 1917.
