Josiah Barnes collection of First World War negatives and prints
Members of the 18th Reinforcements, 1st Divisional Ammunition Column, informally grouped on the wharf, waiting to board the troopship HMAT Orsova (A67). Some of the soldiers have sprigs of wattle in their caps and there is a small pile of scrap iron in the background. Identified: front row, first left: 25949 Gunner (Gnr) Vincent Thomas Nelson, 18 year of clerk, of Invergordon, Vic, identified from name on his gas mask bag, and holding a small St George flag. Back row, first left: 25944 Gnr (Acting Corporal (Cpl)) Frank Henry Jobling, 22 year of school teacher, of Cohuna, Vic, identified from his kitbag lying on the wharf near his feet. All soldiers are wearing leather leggings, two soldiers are holding small Union Jack flags, one soldier has a small unit flag.
