Josiah Barnes collection of First World War negatives and prints
Description
A large group of soldiers, grouped informally on the wharf, waiting to board the troopship HMAT Orsova (A67). In the background is possibly HMAT Orsova with a few civilians standing at the rail. In front of the group of soldiers are three kitbags, one of which belongs to 559 Private (Pte) Walter Richard Faucett, farmer of Mudgee, NSW, of 9th Reinforcements, 6th Machine Gun Company (6MG Coy). In the second row crouching is 557 Pte Albert Stanley McConachy, farmer of Winchelsea, Vic, of 9th Reinforcements, 4th Machine Gun Company (4MG Coy). Pte McConachy was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium on 26 September 1917, aged 29.
