Description
Khaki fur felt slouch hat, with grosgraon khaki hatband with red border stripes, snap fastener securing the turn up, and a leather sweatband marked with maker's details, hat size (6 7/8) and (in pen) the owner's details. An enamelled Australian Red Cross Society badge is attached to the front of the hatband.
History / Summary
Woman's slouch hat as supplied by the Australian Red Cross Society to the War Memorial immediately after the Second World War as part of a sample of uniforms worn by its members during the war. This example is part of a complete set worn by Joan McPhee, a Field Hospital Officer attached to the Army. It includes a khaki jacket and skirt, shirt, tie, lisle stockings, shoes, gloves and leather shoulder bag.
