Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives
Description
Studio portrait of 805 Private (Pte) James Andrew McKibbin. A labourer from Yackandandah, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte McKibbin embarked with the 15th Reinforcements, 6th Machine Gun Company from Melbourne on SS Indarra on 26 November 1917. He later served with the 3rd Machine Gun Company and returned to Australia on 18 July 1919. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had a concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers’ notebooks.
