Description

Studio portrait of 3721 Private (Pte) Albert Moseley and R James (positions unknown). A labourer from Euroa, Victoria prior to enlistment Pte Moseley had previously been rejected due to poor eyesight. He embarked for overseas service with the 10th Reinforcements, 57th Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Nestor on 28 February on 28 February 1918 however following his arrival in England he was diagnosed as suffering from defective vision and he returned to Australia on 9 December 1918 and was medically discharged. Unable to positively identify Pte James. This one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had a concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers’ notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
