Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives

Studio portrait of 2163 2nd Air Mechanic (2/AM) Roy Coulson. A motor mechanic from Fitzroy, Victoria prior to enlistment, 2/AM Coulson embarked with the Flying Corps Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Aeneas on 30 October 1917. Later serving with the 6th Training Squadron he was granted leave to remain in England in order to study shearing and returned to Australia on 18 December 1919. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had a concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers’ notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative. See also DA18121.
