Description

Scarlet superfine skirted tunic with navy blue stand collar and cuffs. Collar and cuffs are edged with single row of gold staff pattern lace. Each cuff is also decorated with a scarlet flap edged with gold lace, white superfine piping, and three gilt New South Wales Military Forces buttons made by 'C. ANDERSON. SYDNEY'. The centre fronts, collar and cuff edges are also trimmed with white superfine wool piping. Centre fronts fasten with eight gilt New South Wales Military Forces buttons. Each gold braid shoulder strap has a smaller button of the same type. There is no rank insignia on the shoulder straps. The centre back skirt section of the tunic has false vents decorated with gold lace and white piping and two sword flaps, each trimmed with gold lace, white piping and three Military Forces buttons. The two lower buttons have been replaced at some stage with a slightly smaller gilt button made by 'JONES & Co. LONDON', and a silver coloured button. The tunic is fully lined with a cream coloured satin weave cotton and wool mixture, quilted across chest and upper side back. There is a concealed welt pocket at the left breast lined with striped cotton twill. Inside the pocket are two cream knitted cotton dress protectors, once stitched to underarm sections of lining. The dress protector's have maker's stamp 'KLEINERT's Invincible cloths Made in USA' in blue ink. The collar is lined with black silk twill and the sleeves with blue striped white cotton twill.
