Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives
Studio portrait of 4274 Private (Pte) Fritz Christian Noske, 13th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of Stawell West, Vic. A saddler prior to enlisting on 21 July 1915, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Demosthenes on 29 December 1915 after training at Seymour Camp. On 31 March 1916 he was tranferred to the 46th Battalion. Pte Noske was wounded in France on 9 January 1917 and died of tetanus on 24 January 1917, aged 24 years. . This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had a permit to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative. See also P05329.001.
