Description

The original grave of Lieutenant (Lt) Thomas Arthur Essex Picot, (also known as Essex Arthur Picot), 18th Battalion. A commercial traveller from Vaucluse, NSW prior to enlistment, Lt Picot embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements, 19th Battalion from Sydney on HMAT Runic on 8 August 1915. After serving at Gallipoli, he transferred to the 18th Battalion and on 29 July 1916 was killed in action in France, aged 25. His remains were later exhumed and re-interred in the Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La-Boiselle, France. Note the earlier, simpler cross on the grave.
