Description
Portrait of Major James Malcolm Lean, Officer in Charge of Base Records and Commander of Base Records Corps. Major Lean worked at Base Records from 1914 and was in charge from 1916 to 1922. He was awarded an MBE in 1920 for meritorious services rendered in connection with the First World War. He retired from Base Records in 1922, At the time of his retirement Base Records was receiving 900-1100 letter requiring response per week.
