London, England. The bookbinding subsection of the Australian War Records Section, at Earl Street, Westminster. It became obvious that the only way in which the diaries could be preserved was by binding them in book form. Tradesmen were therefore selected from men awaiting demobilisation. Left to right, front to back: 1920 Corporal (Cpl) G. Hetherington, 41st Battalion (using a hammer); Hardie (using a press): 828 Sergeant Louis Proops; 27885 Gunner W. R. Watmuff (at paper guillotine); unidentified woman; 240 Cpl H. Lalor, 7th Battalion (centre, back); unidentified woman; 4995 Staff Sergeant W. J. Burnett, 4th AMTMB; Cpl T. Harlow, 57th Battalion (wheel guillotine).
