Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives
Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Ivan Schroder Webley, AFC. Second Lieutenant (Honorary Lieutenant) Webley embarked with No 3 Special Draft, Australian Flying Corps, from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 29 February 1918. In England he qualified as a Flying Officer (Pilot) and was promoted to Lieutenant. Lt Webley returned to Australia on 16 January 1920. See also P08374.004. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
