Group portrait of members of signal section, probably of the 6th Battalion, flanking a sphinx like sculpture at the bottom of stairs outside a building. The sculpture has letters which may read DeSmet. Identified are, left to right: 1670 Corporal Robert (Robin) Potter; 3011 Private (Pte) William Armstrong Heintz MM, of Port Melbourne, Vic (centre front); 3111 Pte Frank Harold Nicholas of Malvern, Vic (front right); 2634 Pte Albert Arthur Higgs of Sydney, NSW (behind Heintz); 190 Pte Leslie Lawrence Dredge of Preston, Vic (beside Higgs); 4451 Pte George Edward Bunton (formerly a seaman, between Higgs and Dredge, next step up); 6198 Pte Richard Edward Pohlner, of Warracknabeal, Vic (back left); 5426 Pte Thomas James Lahiff, of Bendigo, Vic. Heintz was killed in action on 9 August 1918.
