Description

Group portrait of members of the Transport Section of the 18th Battalion whilst training at Liverpool Camp. Most of this group embarked on 25 June 1915 with B Company. Identified left to right, back row: 11 Driver (Dvr) Albert Oliver Norman (later died of wounds 16 September 1917) ; 2 Dvr Albert George Randall; 732 Dvr Frederick Macleay Lawrence; 5 Dvr James Chalmers (later died of wounds 29 June 1918); 6 Dvr Bernard Connelly; 8 Dvr Francis Leslie Lawrence. Front row: 9 Dvr Harold Joseph Muldoon; 13 Dvr Andrew James Soley (later died of wounds 8 April 1918); 4 Dvr George Burnside Cann; 1 Sergeant John Chapman; Lieutenant (later Captain) Edward James McNabb, a drover of Guyra, NSW; 12 Corporal Claude Carlisle Solomon; 3 Dvr Samuel Byers (later returned to Australia in 1917, discharged medically unfit; he died on 3 May 1919); 1134 Dvr Martin Walter Berg; 1325 Dvr Phillip Henry Lindsay Lee.
