Studio portrait of 3924 Private Ernest John Pirani, 11th Battalion. An apprentice fitter from West Guildford, WA prior to enlistment, Pte Pirani embarked with the 12th Reinforcements from Fremantle on RMS Mongolia on 22 November 1915. Initially reported as missing in action, it was later determined that he had been killed in action in France on 25 July 1916, aged 19. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
