Description
Studio portrait of 1526 Private Andrew Dickinson, 18th Battalion, of Sydney, NSW (originally of Tunstall, Staffordshire, England), wearing a hospital uniform and slouch hat. Prior to enlistment, Dickinson worked in Sydney as a patent floor layer. He was wounded at Hill 60 on the Gallipoli Peninsula whilst serving with the 18th Battalion. Later transferred to the 2nd Australian Pioneer Battalion, Pte Dickinson was awarded the Military Medal for bravery as a stretcher bearer at Gird Trench on the Western Front. He served in a garrison battalion in Western Australia during the Second World War.
