Ration kit : Private H R Dodd, 2/13 Battalion, AIF
Plated tin box with fitted removable lid. The tin contains a 6 oz tin of butter concentrate for hot climates, a small 1 oz tin of vegemite, three clear cellophane packets of sugar and three clear packets of tea, two 1/2 oz brown paper packets of instant coffee, three small 1/2 oz paper sachets of salt and one 1/2 oz packet of curry powder. There is also one packet of 'TROPICAL GREENLITES' safety matches.
This is an example of a ration pack issued to Australian soldiers serving in hot climates. The pack was issued to NX57386 Private Raymond Dodd who enlisted in the AIF on 12 July 1940 and served with 2/13 Battalion. He was discharged on 24 October 1945. The Greenlites matches are a later addition, as they were not marketed until October 1956.
