Studio portrait of 1035 Gunner (Gnr) Joseph William Darragh, 5th Battery, 2nd Australian Field Artillery Brigade, of Collingwood, Vic. A bootmaker in civilian life, Gnr Darragh enlisted on 19 August 1914, and embarked from Melbourne, Vic, for service overseas aboard HMAS Shropshire (A9) on 20 October 1914. Gnr Darragh was killed in action at Shrapnel Valley on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25 June 1915, aged 28 years. Note that he is wearing the Victorian Field Artillery uniform dated around 1900.
