Description

Woolmer speaks of his early childhood in England; emigration to Australia; enlistment in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) at age 15 years; signals training; First World War service in the Australian theatre and in Australian ships in the British Grand Fleet based at Scapa Flow, Scotland; return to Australia at the end of the war; naval service during peace time - training, promotions and experiences in the signals branch of the RAN including fleet exercises; posting to the officers' course in the United Kingdom; return to Australia and adjustment, on promotion, to officer lifestyle, responsibilities and duties; signals appointments in RAN shore establishments and in ships during the Second World War.
