Description

Studio portrait of 422153 Aircraftman, later Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt), John Raymond Everett, RAAF, 51 Squadron RAF, of Seaforth, NSW. Flt Sgt Everett enlisted in Sydney on 25 April 1942. He was lost on operations over North West Europe on 20 February 1944, when he was second pilot of Halifax bomber 'X for X-Ray' (MH-X, serial number LW 481). The aircraft was shot down by a German night-fighter while on an operation to target Leipzig, crashing near Stendal. Flt Sgt Everett and Sergeant (Sgt) A R Albone, RAF, were killed and the rest of the crew were taken prisoner. Flt Sgt Everett and Sgt Albone are buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery.
