Framed photograph of the 700th Australian built Beaufort : N Petersen
Photograph of Beaufort bomber A9-700 flying over Sydney Harbour. The photograph is in a purpose-built frame of aircraft grade 'Alclad' aluminium, glazed with a convex sheet of perspex. There are a pair of suspension eyelets rivetted to the rear of the frame, with a length of copper wire twisted through them. A hand written black ink caption attached to the mount board beneath the photo reads as follows: '700TH AUSTRALIAN BUILT BEAUFORT OVER SYDNEY HARBOUR'.
The frame was made by Mr Norman Petersen, a railway engineer who may also have been involved in Beaufort production during the Second World War. The photograph shows DAP Beaufort Mk VII A9-700, the last all-new Beaufort to be built in Australia, which was delivered to the RAAF in September 1944, and Struck Off Charge in August 1949. The emblem visible on the aircraft's nose is Walt Disney's cartoon rabbit 'Thumper'.
