Pattern 1886/91/16/35 Lebel Bayonet
Description
Lebel Model 1886/91/16/35 bayonet. The bayonet has a spear point cruciform blade that is attached to a brass handle. The crossguard is made from steel and is attached to the blade tang by a rivett. A barrel ring is on top of the crossguard and a spring loaded locking bolt secures the bayonet via a mortise slot to the bayonet lug. The bayonet is in natural metal finish. Markings - A87928.
History / Summary
The Lebel Model 1886/91/16/35 bayonet is a conversion of the earlier pattern Lebel bayonets and became the standard French Army bayonet after 1916.
