Description

Outdoor portrait of 1236 Private (Pte) David Keens, 4th Battalion. A letter carrier of Lewisham, NSW, he embarked on HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. He was killed in action on 22 July 1916 at Pozieres, France. He has no known grave and his name is on the memorial at Villers Bretonneux. Two brothers also served: 264 Pte Archibald Joseph Keens, 1st Battalion, was killed in action on 1 May 1915, and 6824 Pte Charles Henry Keens, 17th Battalion returned to Australia on 31 March 1919.
