Description
Studio portrait of 2004A Private (Pte) Joseph Varcoe, 3rd Reinforcements, 56th Battalion, of Gunbar, NSW. Pte Varcoe enlisted on 1 February 1916 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Barambah on 23 June 1916. He was killed in action on 12 October 1917 at Passchendaele, France, aged 36 years, whilst serving with the 35th Battalion.
